If you love football and want to understand why Grêmio is so special, this journey is for you.
The Origin of a Brazilian Giant
Grêmio was born on September 15, 1903, in Porto Alegre, founded by a group of young men led by Cândido Dias da Silva, after witnessing a football match that ignited their passion for this sport newly arrived in Brazil.
From the beginning, the club displayed a strong identity, linked to discipline, collective effort, and love for the jersey. Its first official match was in 1904, and very soon it began to accumulate titles at the regional level, dominating the Campeonato Gaúcho for decades.
But it wasn't until the 1980s that Grêmio catapulted to continental stardom. In 1981, they won their first Brasileirão, and in 1983 they reached the pinnacle of glory by winning the Copa Libertadores and, shortly after, the Intercontinental Cup against Hamburg of Germany.
The passion of the tricolor fan
Grêmio's fans, known as the "Torcida Gremista", are recognized for their loyalty and their imposing presence at the Arena do Grêmio stadium. The classic against Internacional, called "Grenal", is one of the most intense derbies on the planet.
