Club's Birth and Youth Academy Philosophy

Independiente del Valle was founded on March 1, 1958, in Sangolquí, a quiet canton in the province of Pichincha. For decades, it was an amateur club with little presence on the national scene. But everything changed in the mid-2000s when a new board of directors took over with a clear vision: to invest in young talent, infrastructure, and a coherent playing philosophy.

The model was inspired by European projects like those of Ajax and Villarreal, prioritizing the development of players from the youth divisions. Its sports complex, one of the best in the region, was key to attracting and developing Ecuadorian talent with international potential. In 2007, Independiente was promoted to Serie B, and by 2010 it was already in Serie A. From there it didn't stop: it quickly established itself as a competitive team, with daring young players, tactical discipline, and its own identity. It was the club everyone wanted to avoid and, at the same time, admire for its bold approach.

National and International Achievements

Independiente del Valle's first major breakthrough came in 2016, when they reached the Copa Libertadores final after eliminating giants like River Plate and Boca Juniors. Although they lost to Atlético Nacional, they made it clear that the "giant-killer" was here to stay.

Cups Won and Domestic Dominance

In 2019, IDV achieved the unthinkable: they were crowned champions of the Copa Sudamericana by defeating Colón de Santa Fe. This milestone was historic not only for the club, but for Ecuadorian football. In 2022, they repeated the feat by winning the Recopa Sudamericana against the powerful Flamengo. Locally, they were LigaPro champions in 2021 and 2023, consolidating their dominance in Ecuador. Independiente del Valle has also become a regular in the Copa Libertadores group stage. Renato Paiva was the architect of the national title in 2021. More recently, Martín Anselmi achieved the Recopa and the back-to-back championships.
